This horse getting out of a river is an oil and encaustic painting.
I used to work part-time for a horse ranch that swam horses for their therapy and exercise. This was in Page Springs, AZ and most of the horses were owned by professional cowboys. I took many photos of the horses swimming – for future paintings.
Framed size: 13″ x 7 1/4″ x 1 1/2″ (184mm x 330mm) with a black, wooden frame. No glass or plexi.
As with any art work please keep it out of the direct sunlight.
An encaustic painting is achieved by melting wax and varnish over a hot plate and slowing applying it while melting it with a hot gun. It’s very time consuming but rewarding. I then paint my image with oil paint on top of the encaustic.
